Effective date: July 4, 2026. These Terms of Submission are the agreement you accept each time you submit a video to Humour Closet, and they explain who may submit, what you promise about your clip, the broad rights you grant us when you send it, our content rules, and how to withdraw a submission.
Humour Closet is operated by Humour Closet Media, Inc. ("Humour Closet," "we," "us," or "our"). In these terms, "you" means the person submitting a video, and "content" means the video and any information you submit with it (such as its title, category, and description). By checking the consent boxes on our submission form and sending us your content, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not submit.
These Terms of Submission work alongside our Terms of Service, our Privacy Policy, and — if you are entering the cash prize contest — our Contest Rules. Copyright complaints are handled under our Copyright / DMCA Policy.
1. Who may submit
To submit a video, you must be at least 13 years old. When you submit, you confirm your age by checking the required box on the form. If you are under 18, you should have your parent or legal guardian read and approve these terms before you submit.
Submitting a video is not the same as entering our cash prize contest. Anyone 13 or older who agrees to these terms may submit a clip for us to consider featuring. Our quarterly contest, which awards a US $1,000 cash prize plus a featured shout-out, has stricter eligibility rules: you generally must be a legal US resident (residents of Rhode Island and US territories are excluded), be 13 or older, and be located in the US at the time of entry. The full eligibility, judging, prize, tax, and dispute terms for the contest are in the Contest Rules, which control anything related to the contest.
2. What you promise us (your warranties)
When you submit a video, you promise that all of the following are true. A "warranty" is a promise you are legally responsible for. These promises matter because we rely on them when we decide to feature and share your clip.
- You created it or you own it. You personally recorded the video, or you are the sole owner of all rights in it. It is your original content, not someone else's.
- Everyone in it consented. Every person who can be identified in the video has given you permission to record them and to share the clip. If a minor appears, you have the permission of their parent or guardian.
- No third-party material. The video does not contain copyrighted music, film or TV clips, logos, trademarks, or other material owned by someone else, and it does not infringe or violate anyone's rights (including copyright, trademark, privacy, and publicity rights).
- It is not harmful or illegal. The video does not contain staged cruelty, illegal activity, sexually explicit material, or anything else that breaks the content standards in Section 4.
- Your information is accurate. The name, email, title, category, and any description you provide are truthful and belong to you.
You are responsible for keeping these promises. If any of them turns out to be untrue and that causes a problem or a legal claim against us, you may be responsible for the resulting costs, as described in our Terms of Service.
3. The rights you grant us — please read this carefully
This is the most important section, so we want to be completely transparent. When you submit a video, you grant Humour Closet a very broad license to use it, and you should not submit unless you are comfortable with that.
By submitting, you grant Humour Closet Media, Inc. an exclusive, perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, edit, reproduce, adapt, distribute, publicly display, broadcast, stream, license and sub-license, advertise, monetize, and otherwise exploit your content, in whole or in part, in any and all media now known or later developed. In addition, under our Contest Rules, submitted content may be treated as the property of the Sponsor.
In plain language, this means:
- Forever. "Perpetual" and "irrevocable" mean this license does not expire, and once your clip has been published or licensed, we may keep using it even if you later ask us to stop showing it in new places.
- Everywhere. "Worldwide" and "any and all media" mean we can use your clip on our website, our YouTube channel, other social platforms, compilations, advertising, and future formats not yet invented.
- Exclusive. "Exclusive" means you are granting these rights to us specifically. In practice, this can limit your ability to grant the same rights to others.
- We can edit and monetize. We may cut, caption, combine, or otherwise edit your clip, and we may earn money from it (for example, through advertising) with no obligation to share that money with you, apart from the contest prize described in the Contest Rules.
- We can let others use it. "License and sub-license" means we may allow partners and platforms to use your clip too.
We are not softening this: it is a broad grant of rights. If you are not comfortable letting us feature and monetize your clip in this way, forever and across our channels, please do not submit it. If you have questions before submitting, email legal@humourcloset.com.
4. Content standards — what you may not submit
Humour Closet features funny fails, bloopers, and viral clips. To keep our channels safe and appropriate, you may not submit content that:
- Was recorded by someone else, or that you do not fully own the rights to;
- Shows or promotes staged cruelty to people or animals, or real harm passed off as an accident;
- Depicts illegal activity, or encourages others to break the law;
- Contains sexually explicit, pornographic, or nudity-based content;
- Is hateful, harassing, or demeaning toward a person or group, or promotes violence;
- Includes third-party music, film clips, logos, trademarks, or other protected material;
- Reveals someone's private information, or features an identifiable person who did not consent;
- Is deceptive, fraudulent, or a scam, or contains malware or spam.
5. Credit and attribution
We may credit you as the submitter (for example, with a name shout-out) when we feature your clip, but we are not required to, and the form and placement of any credit is up to us. Please do not assume you will be named or tagged in every use of your content.
6. Our right to moderate, edit, or reject
We review submissions and decide, at our sole discretion, which ones to feature. We may:
- Reject or remove any submission for any reason or no reason;
- Edit, shorten, caption, or combine clips before publishing;
- Decline to publish content that we believe breaks these terms or our content standards.
Reviewing a submission does not mean we have approved it or verified the promises you made in Section 2.
7. No obligation to publish or pay
Submitting a video does not guarantee that we will publish it, feature it, or pay you anything. Apart from the specific cash prize described in the Contest Rules, we have no obligation to compensate you for any use of your content. Submitting is voluntary and free.
8. Withdrawing a submission or requesting removal
You can ask us to withdraw a submission or remove your content. To do so, email privacy@humourcloset.com from the email address you used to submit, and describe the clip (for example, its title and the date you sent it) so we can find it.
Please understand an important limit. Because the license in Section 3 is broad and, once content is published or licensed, may persist, we cannot always fully undo a use that has already happened. We will make reasonable efforts to stop featuring your clip in new places going forward, but copies that have already been published, downloaded, shared, or sub-licensed to third parties may continue to exist and be used. When you contact us, we will explain what we can and cannot do for your specific request.
For questions about the personal information we hold about you (such as your name and email), and how to access or delete it, see our Privacy Policy or email privacy@humourcloset.com.
9. How your submission is stored and handled
When you submit, we collect your name, email, video title, category, and any optional description, along with either the video file you upload or the link you paste. Uploaded video files and link records are stored using Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud storage, and your submission is processed by serverless functions running on our hosting provider. Your name, email, title, and category are attached as information about the stored video. For full details on what we collect, how we use it, the outside services we rely on, and your privacy choices, please read our Privacy Policy.
10. How these terms fit together
These Terms of Submission are part of your overall agreement with us. If you are entering the contest, the Contest Rules control anything specific to the contest (eligibility, judging, prizes, taxes, and disputes). The Privacy Policy governs how we handle your personal information. The Terms of Service govern your general use of the site. Copyright complaints are handled under our Copyright / DMCA Policy. If you believe your own work was submitted by someone else without your permission, email copyright@humourcloset.com.
11. Governing law
These Terms of Submission are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute relating to these terms will be handled in the courts located in Los Angeles, California, except where the Contest Rules require a different process (for example, binding arbitration under JAMS rules for contest disputes, with no class actions).
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms of Submission from time to time. When we do, we will change the effective date at the top of this page. The terms in effect at the time you submit apply to that submission.
